The Improv Toolbelt: Listening
BE CHANGED
Listening is the willingness to be changed. Be affected by what your scene partner says. Human reaction will always be interesting to follow.
BE IN REACTION TO
There is no such thing as ‘the right reaction’ to an idea. Follow your gut and make a strong choice. E.g. you won the lottery? One character might be excited, but another could be anxious. Lots of different reactions could be justifiable.
REPETITION
Repeating ideas can show that they are important in the scene. They can also spur players to explore them in more depth.
SISTER SENTENCES
If you don’t like to repeat ideas verbatim, consider similar sentences that convey the same core information.
